February 23rd, 2010

Ahhh, the signs of impending spring.  Although there is still snow on the ground, one of the neighborhood restaurants has already set out their patio furniture in expectation.  Let it be known that patio bloody marys are one of my favorite things in life.  I cannot wait.

Today I've found myself working the phones.  I'm keeping myself pert and alive by making trips to the corner gas station to refill on caffeine.  I never touch Sweet 'n' Low, and have started avoiding Equal as well.  A friend of mine's aunt used to drink 6 cups of tea a day, each sweetened with three packets of Equal.  Eventually, she ended up with bladder cancer, which her doctor unofficially attributes to her habit.  Extreme, yes, but still, I'd rather have bitter coffee than bladder cancer!

Originally, I saw this van as I was stuck in traffic the other day.  Having not brought my camera with me, I fumbled with my phone to try to get a photo.  As things started moving again, the passenger saw me frantically trying to snap a photo and flipped me off.  Unluckily for me, I did not get a snap of this gesture.  Ah well.  Today, however, I screeched to a stop when I saw the same exact van sitting in a parking lot.  I rushed over and took a few pictures, bird-free.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle... Stella is, more and more, becoming quite patient with me clicking and whirring around her while she snoozes.  I'm going to try to use her for both my "blue" and "yellow" months to correspond with her two different eyes as well, so by that time, I estimate she should be quite good at holding still.

Some days are cut out precisely for waking up extra late, hiking out into the snow to the nearest Subway, and bringing back a foot-long and chips to nurse throughout a day's worth of Olympics-watching.

We went on a hike in the woods that turned into a 3-hour tour.  First we found this, some bloody prints turned pink in the snow... later we found an entire deer's carcass lying not more than 2 feet off the footpath, totally eviscerated.  It was then that we decided to try and find our way out of the woods before it got too dark...

February 17th, 2010

Went to Urban Outfitters to return some curtains I bought online, that ended up being the wrong color... not so much "natural" as "tea-stained".  I decided to take my returned dollars and turn them into outfit magic, but... not so much.  I notice this project is starting to heavily influence my outfit proclivities.

I don't know if this ring is too juvenile for me, but I really do have a thing for giant, acrylic rings, especially if they have things trapped inside of them.  These look like Advil, so all the better.  Ha!

February 15th, 2010

I'm feeling roughly how this flower feels vis a vis all the snow.  It's been the snowiest winter on record for the last 30 years or so, and frankly, I'd like to use my car.

You can view other images of my Valentine's dress here... this is me giving it a twirl.  My sweets surprised me with dinner at one of the nicest places in the city... champagne mustard, filet mignon, smoked salmon, lobster bisque, raspberry coulis... it was all there and heavenly, heavenly.  I'm not usually one for chocolate desserts, either, but a molten-centered chocolate tart confetti'd with honey roasted peanuts was an unspeakably divine end to a magical evening.

February 13th, 2010

We stopped by the Wonderland of Cheap Furniture today to pick up some lighting, and I so say I think pink is becoming trendy for the home. There was a wealth of photographic opportunity, but I always feel shy taking pictures inside of stores... it's generally frowned upon. Ah well, Gurgablurg Chairs, say cheese!

A very Valentine's explosion. In a word? Madness. I still haven't gotten anything for my Sweets... this may turn into a very last-minute Valentine's Day mission for me.

February 11th, 2010

On my first venture out in some time, I decided to go down a street that I never have and first thing I see-- a big, pink house. Totally cute. I keep thinking about getting back into blogging "for real". I hate to waste my old blog, Spandexpony... but mostly I'm thinking about that in terms of collateral. Hate to waste the daily hits, hate to waste my Google Ads and Analytics accounts, but at the end of the day, it had become less and less fun to continue on with. We'll see how it goes. To my mind, there are several goals I need to achieve before I truly get back into it... don't want to take the training wheels off too soon.

The bathroom is all white. We've been meaning to paint it minty green, but just haven't gotten around to it. The starkness is growing on me, however. This pink razor is the only thing in there with a color, and it popped out to me out of the corner of my eye begging me to take a picture of it.

Stella's newest favorite perch is on this rolled up carpet in my office. Not only is a great scratching post, but it allows her to do that which she does best: to pretend to be comfortable when, surely, she must not be.

You should see her sleep with her weight divided between two bar-stools.

Still no sign of let-up with this being-sick business. Here, a picture of the scene in The Painted Veil where Walter confronts Kitty about her cheating. I'm really enjoying my TV pictures--- especially the cool patterns that develop when the TV and camera interact. However, they do tread dangerously near being self-consciously meta. But let's face it. I'm sick, I'm not doing much, but I am watching TV.

February 7th, 2010

I knew I should mine any available opportunity today to make my photo happen. I was alone at work, with no chance of leaving, and afterwards, the Superbowl, friends, and chili awaited. Nothing pink in sight, I'll tell you that much. So when I saw this girl in her sweatshirt on my tea run, I thought-- here's your chance! Trust, I consulted her before I snapped away.

Now here's the point where I say to myself, well, good for you, you crossed the bridge of asking someone you don't know if you can use them for a photo opp, but, now as I'm looking at it, I say, well, it's got pink in it, just like you wanted, but this picture could say something, but doesn't. At all. I start to wonder now if I could have framed this picture in a way so that it did mean something; and that's definitely something I would not have thought of heretofore. Babysteps. This project might get me good yet.

February 6th, 2010

Oh, how I love my peenk peeg. I got her from this dreadful Chinese restaurant. I was mourning my belly full of what must have been chicken waddles and fried aspic in garlicky orange marmalade on the way up to pay my check; when, what to my wondering eyes should appear but this cute little piglet and the rest of her after-dinner-mint colored brethren hanging out underneath the glass counter top. The pink one made the cut, because, damnit, pigs are pink! She now lives with the rest of my porcelain animal collection having the rare distinction of being the only one of them which is not Japanese or from the 1970s.

February 5th, 2010

My neighborhood is extraordinarily peculiar. There are the Oldy McOldersons, the homeless people pushing shopping carts, methtards, and an ebullient community of drag queens. Their official bar is 4 doors down from our house, and Saturday night is a drug-crazed, high-heel stomping, wig-pulling, beglittered fiesta of the damned. The fighting is a near-constant, and used to keep me posted unwaveringly at the window, wishing for a baseball bat, mace, or even a sock full of horse-shoe magnets. But now, oddly--yet thankfully, it manages to lull me to sleep. You can get used to anything, I swear!

February 4th, 2010

Here's our household Buddha, hanging out with our design-dweeb books. He used to belong to a friend of ours that passed away a couple of years ago... he was very hardcore into Buddhism. "Boods" stood up at the front of the room in lieu of a photo on an easel during his service. Now we keep him around as a friendly, fluorescent reminder.

February 3rd, 2010

I've had to take a break in uploading photos this week because I've been sick... you know you're not feeling well if you can't even look at the computer without getting woozy! Geesh! Here's a quick snap I took of me at work (pre-sickness)... a little slice of life for ya. I'm putting all the "hair flowers", as I like to call them, back in their proper, bouquet-y formation before I peace the eff out.

February 2nd, 2010

I've never had a problem falling asleep until the last couple of months, where, as soon as I start to drift, I get ravaged by itching. Therefore, I take these now nearly every night before I go to bed. I hope I'm not messing up my liver or anything.

February 01, 2010

Happy February! This month, I've decided to go against the grain (scoff, scoff) and have this be my Pink Month. I love pink, but I do say it's hard to find... Now that I've grown used to seeking out white in all things, it was difficult to change focus! Good thing this month is shorter than the rest... but I do predict I'll be missing pink by pink's end.

January 31, 2010

Nothing excites like a fleet of firetrucks in your own backyard. We ran out to watch --discreetly, we hoped-- as their flashlights played around the house in question before a window was opened, and thick black smoke poured out. A photo of our back gate illuminated by the lights on top of the trucks. I have an alternate image here-- couldn't decide which I liked better.

My Sweets found these amazing Adidas at the thrift today, in nearly unworn condition. I love, though have never purchased, red white and blue colorways for sneakers. I feel an impending purchase of some Golas coming on...
