March 19th, 2010

Legend at a park near my parents' house where I went a visiting a couple of days ago.  My parents have 4 dogs; 1 relatively obedient, 2 hyper-active and the 4th, painfully old.  My dad walks them all together everyday, hard to say how he manages it!  He has a very high threshold for chaos.

On a bridge. I tried to lift the leaf up to see what was underneath, but it was firmly cemented down!  I liked the "just so" placement of the little ring thing around one of its lobes as well, so in the photo it stayed.

I had a little Etsy store selling vintage a couple of years ago, but had to stop when I ran out of room.  I am slowly but surely getting back into the game, now that I have one closet full of vintage items that don't fit me but that I knew would be perfect for another vintage loving gal such as myself.  I listed a couple of things today.... I want to have a grand re-opening and am entertaining ideas on how to celebrate.

At a mall job, one day the girl from L'Occitane came by with three little topiaries and said she was going to throw them out if she couldn't find anyone to take them.  She couldn't take them home, but she knew that someone would really like to have them. That person was me.  This is my desk topiary; there are 2 on either side of the buffet downstairs.

Today I got dressed up in some office finery to spend the day going through the classifieds. I got a Greek quesadilla and some iced tea to keep me company.

I thought it was funny that pink preceded green, just like in my project!  Here I am at Barnes and Noble trying to read away my woes in the magazine aisle.  I always yearn to buy the really expensive ones to use in collage projects, but as long as I can safely take photos while reading the magazine in-store, why not print them out and then use them in my projects?  I know.  I know.  My cheapness sometimes outpaces my decency.

Yours,

Elissa.

I've got all my photos up to date, pretty much, but am lagging on posting on here.  I think I'm figuring out that I don't really care for green... there aren't too many good opportunities to capture it... this is a glimpse of my friend's apartment, on the night to end all nights.  For an informal gathering of less than 15 people, things got a bit outta hand.  I did not discriminate afterwards and enjoyed some tasty seafood leftovers.  Everyone knows you never eat the seafood leftovers!  Well, I did, and I paid for it handsomely the next day.

Yours,
Elissa.

March 12th, 2010

The Ohio Theater.  I've seen a few productions here but always at night.  The exterior is really lovely and has some great tile work and of course this sick granite ticket booth.  Made me reminiscent for old timey days when people really gave a shit about movies.  Wait-- what am I talking about?? Have you ever seen the lines for movies on opening day??

March 11th, 2010

Ok, so I was downtown looking for green to present itself when I saw the guy in the purple shirt putting change in the meter a few blocks down.  From the back, he looked like a woman, and the pageboy hairdo didn't help his cause.  I fought off my yearning to snap a picture of him because my intentions were more People of Walmart than Diane Arbus.  A few blocks later, green presented itself and I snapped away.  When I looked at my camera, I was pleasantly pleased to see Pageboy Man captured in the frame.

I always wondered why they stopped production on these cars.  I feel like they've stopped producing distinctive cars, and even when this one was out, it was pretty much the only alternative to the norm.  My sweets has always wanted a Bug convertible, but the 1960's version.  I keep telling him there are plenty in good shape, for cheap in Mexico (they are wild over them down there), but not so sure about the logistics of going down there and coming back with it...

What did I tell ya?  More park pictures.  This one kind of makes me laugh... it looks like the kind of thing that should be captioned, "Introspection", and hung in an office somewhere.

March 8th, 2010

I think this is a rather lovely photo of a corporate family restaurant.  This is the outside view of where I am now employed.  The money doesn't seem to be all that good, but the food really is fantastic, and everyone there is easy-going and relaxed, which is exactly what I require at this point in my life.  That last year has just been so up and down!  Granted, I will continue my search for my "forever job", but this is a good place to perch for now.

March 7th, 2010

I think I'm finding it hard to resist taking pictures of plant life this month, mostly because I'm so damned excited about spring!!! Look at these little guys poking up!! Aren't they luscious and cute?  Grow, crocus; grow, tulip!!

March 6th, 2010

Ah, the thrift store.  I scored some hot ish here on this day... even though this might be one of the most off-putting thrifts I've been in, by clientele and quality of the garments alone.  Although, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and funny; one day the cashier and I heard "I Guess You're Just What I Needed" on the radio and we belted it out together.

March 5th, 2010

Sorry for this not being much of a photo, and not terribly green either, but in real life, it is a nice, cool, celadon color.  My dad got me a gift card to a salon in town for my birthday, and I used it today to get a pedicure.  When I came home, my sweets told me that my toes "look like racecars".  Ha!!!

March 4th, 2010

Here, a pond near where I live.  As things start to ever-so-slowly warm up, you can get a good look at all the decaying plants beneath the surface. I think it looks very ghostly and cool.

March 3rd, 2010

The view from inside Burger King, aka my new favorite fast food restaurant.  Their chicken sandwich is seriously tops.  And, on their dine-in tray-liner paraphernalia, I learned that a Whopper Junior and a small onion ring is only 490 calories!  WTF!! That's what I eat that damned chicken sandwich for!!

March 2nd, 2010

The birds are a-tweet, the temperature is trenchcoat-worthy, things are finally starting to melt, and... what do I see there in the center?  Looks like a couple of tiny clovers starting to sprout.  But I'm not biologist.  Still... I'm feeling verrry optimistic!

My next door neighbor's porch.  She's a real go-getter of a septuagenarian.  Thursday is her "road-trip" day with her boyfriend... she and he go to points unknown for the day and they don't come back til 1 or 2 in the morning.  She also encourages us to party as much as we want, because she likes "to hear young people having fun."

February 28th, 2010

As you may or may not know, I am ridiculously broke right now.  I did myself the disservice today of looking in a vintage/resale kind of shop and falling in love with a floaty pink skirt as I am wont to do.  Well, I just wouldn't let it die, so I rummaged around in my trunk for something I could sell.  I came up with a damned good purse, that was really not my style and hadn't been used in nearly a year, and even then, I think I used it possibly 5 times.  Moral of the story-- I got my skirt, plus $6.  On the way out, I noticed that the front glass was peppered with what I assumed to be BB holes.

Now that February is a thing of the past, I've decided that March gets to be green, partially because it won't be too hard to swing, and also because I'm being optimistic about spring.  Here goes... !

Catching dinner with my sweets at this bagel deli that also makes a mean curry, in addition to General Tso Wings.  Here, the ubiquitous Good Humor freezer, I laughed at the explosion of ice creams on the side.  But where's the Choco Taco?

Jeff attending to his phone while we hang out at Wild Goose.  They recently put in a whole wall of record sleeves of the late 70's, early 80's one-big-thing-on-an-all-white-cover genre.  Although this blog is not really my main drag, and mostly a way of coaxing myself into taking photos everyday, if you do like it, as a few of you sweet people have said that you do, you can now Follow my blog with bloglovin !

Bowling.  These shoes are super fresh, and the lanes know it.  Unlike every other pair, they defaced these with their own name in Sharpie all over to deter theft.  "HP Lanes" is the new name of what was formerly known as "Mr. Bill's"... I think I might have left with them if they scribbled "Mr. Bill's" all over them.  Let it be known here and throughout the land that I officially predict a bowling shoe comeback, sooner than later.

I don't think I have the "photographing fish" thing completely down, despite my camera's "aquarium setting", things still look dark.  I'd like to come back to this subject soon, though-- but at the time I took this picture, I was in a serious time crunch and had just so happened to pass this fish store.  I stormed in with my camera, jostling past dubious parents with ziplocs full of guppies and 10-year-olds lingering around the tanks debating with eachother whether one fish would eat the ones he had at home and whether it would be cool enough watching it to risk it.  I think I spent exactly 90 seconds in the store.  What can I say?  I work fast.

Ahhh, the signs of impending spring.  Although there is still snow on the ground, one of the neighborhood restaurants has already set out their patio furniture in expectation.  Let it be known that patio bloody marys are one of my favorite things in life.  I cannot wait.

February 22nd, 2010

Today I've found myself working the phones.  I'm keeping myself pert and alive by making trips to the corner gas station to refill on caffeine.  I never touch Sweet 'n' Low, and have started avoiding Equal as well.  A friend of mine's aunt used to drink 6 cups of tea a day, each sweetened with three packets of Equal.  Eventually, she ended up with bladder cancer, which her doctor unofficially attributes to her habit.  Extreme, yes, but still, I'd rather have bitter coffee than bladder cancer!

February 21st, 2010

Originally, I saw this van as I was stuck in traffic the other day.  Having not brought my camera with me, I fumbled with my phone to try to get a photo.  As things started moving again, the passenger saw me frantically trying to snap a photo and flipped me off.  Unluckily for me, I did not get a snap of this gesture.  Ah well.  Today, however, I screeched to a stop when I saw the same exact van sitting in a parking lot.  I rushed over and took a few pictures, bird-free.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle... Stella is, more and more, becoming quite patient with me clicking and whirring around her while she snoozes.  I'm going to try to use her for both my "blue" and "yellow" months to correspond with her two different eyes as well, so by that time, I estimate she should be quite good at holding still.

Some days are cut out precisely for waking up extra late, hiking out into the snow to the nearest Subway, and bringing back a foot-long and chips to nurse throughout a day's worth of Olympics-watching.

February 18th, 2010

We went on a hike in the woods that turned into a 3-hour tour.  First we found this, some bloody prints turned pink in the snow... later we found an entire deer's carcass lying not more than 2 feet off the footpath, totally eviscerated.  It was then that we decided to try and find our way out of the woods before it got too dark...

February 17th, 2010

Went to Urban Outfitters to return some curtains I bought online, that ended up being the wrong color... not so much "natural" as "tea-stained".  I decided to take my returned dollars and turn them into outfit magic, but... not so much.  I notice this project is starting to heavily influence my outfit proclivities.

February 16th, 2010

I don't know if this ring is too juvenile for me, but I really do have a thing for giant, acrylic rings, especially if they have things trapped inside of them.  These look like Advil, so all the better.  Ha!

February 15th, 2010

I'm feeling roughly how this flower feels vis a vis all the snow.  It's been the snowiest winter on record for the last 30 years or so, and frankly, I'd like to use my car.

February 14th, 2010

You can view other images of my Valentine's dress here... this is me giving it a twirl.  My sweets surprised me with dinner at one of the nicest places in the city... champagne mustard, filet mignon, smoked salmon, lobster bisque, raspberry coulis... it was all there and heavenly, heavenly.  I'm not usually one for chocolate desserts, either, but a molten-centered chocolate tart confetti'd with honey roasted peanuts was an unspeakably divine end to a magical evening.

February 13th, 2010

We stopped by the Wonderland of Cheap Furniture today to pick up some lighting, and I so say I think pink is becoming trendy for the home. There was a wealth of photographic opportunity, but I always feel shy taking pictures inside of stores... it's generally frowned upon. Ah well, Gurgablurg Chairs, say cheese!

A very Valentine's explosion. In a word? Madness. I still haven't gotten anything for my Sweets... this may turn into a very last-minute Valentine's Day mission for me.

February 11th, 2010

On my first venture out in some time, I decided to go down a street that I never have and first thing I see-- a big, pink house. Totally cute. I keep thinking about getting back into blogging "for real". I hate to waste my old blog, Spandexpony... but mostly I'm thinking about that in terms of collateral. Hate to waste the daily hits, hate to waste my Google Ads and Analytics accounts, but at the end of the day, it had become less and less fun to continue on with. We'll see how it goes. To my mind, there are several goals I need to achieve before I truly get back into it... don't want to take the training wheels off too soon.

February 10, 2010

The bathroom is all white. We've been meaning to paint it minty green, but just haven't gotten around to it. The starkness is growing on me, however. This pink razor is the only thing in there with a color, and it popped out to me out of the corner of my eye begging me to take a picture of it.

February 9th, 2010

Stella's newest favorite perch is on this rolled up carpet in my office. Not only is a great scratching post, but it allows her to do that which she does best: to pretend to be comfortable when, surely, she must not be.

You should see her sleep with her weight divided between two bar-stools.

February 8th, 2010

Still no sign of let-up with this being-sick business. Here, a picture of the scene in The Painted Veil where Walter confronts Kitty about her cheating. I'm really enjoying my TV pictures--- especially the cool patterns that develop when the TV and camera interact. However, they do tread dangerously near being self-consciously meta. But let's face it. I'm sick, I'm not doing much, but I am watching TV.

February 7th, 2010

I knew I should mine any available opportunity today to make my photo happen. I was alone at work, with no chance of leaving, and afterwards, the Superbowl, friends, and chili awaited. Nothing pink in sight, I'll tell you that much. So when I saw this girl in her sweatshirt on my tea run, I thought-- here's your chance! Trust, I consulted her before I snapped away.

Now here's the point where I say to myself, well, good for you, you crossed the bridge of asking someone you don't know if you can use them for a photo opp, but, now as I'm looking at it, I say, well, it's got pink in it, just like you wanted, but this picture could say something, but doesn't. At all. I start to wonder now if I could have framed this picture in a way so that it did mean something; and that's definitely something I would not have thought of heretofore. Babysteps. This project might get me good yet.

February 6th, 2010

Oh, how I love my peenk peeg. I got her from this dreadful Chinese restaurant. I was mourning my belly full of what must have been chicken waddles and fried aspic in garlicky orange marmalade on the way up to pay my check; when, what to my wondering eyes should appear but this cute little piglet and the rest of her after-dinner-mint colored brethren hanging out underneath the glass counter top. The pink one made the cut, because, damnit, pigs are pink! She now lives with the rest of my porcelain animal collection having the rare distinction of being the only one of them which is not Japanese or from the 1970s.

February 5th, 2010

My neighborhood is extraordinarily peculiar. There are the Oldy McOldersons, the homeless people pushing shopping carts, methtards, and an ebullient community of drag queens. Their official bar is 4 doors down from our house, and Saturday night is a drug-crazed, high-heel stomping, wig-pulling, beglittered fiesta of the damned. The fighting is a near-constant, and used to keep me posted unwaveringly at the window, wishing for a baseball bat, mace, or even a sock full of horse-shoe magnets. But now, oddly--yet thankfully, it manages to lull me to sleep. You can get used to anything, I swear!

February 4th, 2010

Here's our household Buddha, hanging out with our design-dweeb books. He used to belong to a friend of ours that passed away a couple of years ago... he was very hardcore into Buddhism. "Boods" stood up at the front of the room in lieu of a photo on an easel during his service. Now we keep him around as a friendly, fluorescent reminder.

February 3rd, 2010

I've had to take a break in uploading photos this week because I've been sick... you know you're not feeling well if you can't even look at the computer without getting woozy! Geesh! Here's a quick snap I took of me at work (pre-sickness)... a little slice of life for ya. I'm putting all the "hair flowers", as I like to call them, back in their proper, bouquet-y formation before I peace the eff out.

February 2nd, 2010

I've never had a problem falling asleep until the last couple of months, where, as soon as I start to drift, I get ravaged by itching. Therefore, I take these now nearly every night before I go to bed. I hope I'm not messing up my liver or anything.

February 01, 2010

Happy February! This month, I've decided to go against the grain (scoff, scoff) and have this be my Pink Month. I love pink, but I do say it's hard to find... Now that I've grown used to seeking out white in all things, it was difficult to change focus! Good thing this month is shorter than the rest... but I do predict I'll be missing pink by pink's end.

January 31, 2010

Nothing excites like a fleet of firetrucks in your own backyard. We ran out to watch --discreetly, we hoped-- as their flashlights played around the house in question before a window was opened, and thick black smoke poured out. A photo of our back gate illuminated by the lights on top of the trucks. I have an alternate image here-- couldn't decide which I liked better.

My Sweets found these amazing Adidas at the thrift today, in nearly unworn condition. I love, though have never purchased, red white and blue colorways for sneakers. I feel an impending purchase of some Golas coming on...

January 29th, 2010

Ah, yes, scale, we meet again. A branch of the gym I belong to, but rarely go to based on its distance from everything I do, just opened up an 5 minute walk away from my house. I'll probably find myself here on a more regular basis now. Everytime I pass a scale, the "enquiring mind" within me screams for me to step on it-- just to see! Better today? I won't let myself, but I definitely give it a good, half-longing, half-hating stare each time I pass it.
